Welcome to 1B with Miss Bec O’Malley!
Our class has been very busy settling into new routines and learning about one another. It is pleasing to see the positive attitude and maturity of students towards their learning so early in the year. This has been reflected in their personal goal setting. I am sure this year will be fun, exciting and rewarding for all!
Sports Day – Sports day is on a Friday. Students are required to wear their sports uniform, have their school hat and a drink bottle.
Library Day – Every Thursday, 1B will have Library at 9:20 - 10:20 with Mrs Jennie Smith. They are encouraged to borrow books of interest each week as they are read in class independently to form a deeper love for reading.
MADD Hour– Every Wednesday 1B will have MADD Hour at 11:45 - 12:45 with Miss Brooke Westwood. Semester 1 will focus on art appreciation and music with Miss Brooke Westwood and Semester 2 will be dance and drama with Mrs Kelly Lukic.
Homework – For year one, students are encouraged to borrow home readers on a Friday from the home reading hub. Students also have access to reading eggs and mathletics and are encouraged to complete activities that are posted for the weeks focus.
Crunch and Sip - Each morning we have fruit break at around 10am. Please include a piece of fruit that is easy to eat in your child’s lunch box each day. Fruit break should only take 5-10 minutes.
Parent Helpers – We are always on the lookout for parent helpers to read with the students and go through sight word lists, so even if it is a once off or reoccurring, I would love to hear from you. Please contact me via the school email if this is something you would be able to assist with.
Assembly – The Assembly time for K-2 is Wednesday afternoons at 2:50 in weeks 3, 5, 8 and 10.
Parent Communication - Open communication between us is very important. Should you have any queries regarding your child, please send me an email through the school email address Berowra-p.school@det.nsw.edu.au . As I am teaching, attending meetings and have other duties throughout the school day, I may take 24 - 48 hours to respond.
Seesaw - 1B use seesaw in class time not only for their technology skills through educational tasks, but to show their families what they are learning about during the day. They upload images and activities that they have been doing in classtime which encourages families to participate in the learning journey.
I am really looking forward to an exciting year of learning with 1B.
