Welcome to 1T with Mrs Tonkes!!!
1T have all settled into their new class very quickly. This year we will be working on our reading, writing and mathematics skills and all the other fun KLAs.
Sports Day – Sports day is on a Friday. Students are required to wear their sports uniform, have their school hat and a drink bottle.
Library Day – Every Thursday, 1T will have Library at 10.20-11.20 with Mrs Jennie Smith. They are encouraged to borrow books of interest each week as they are read in class independently to form a deeper love for reading.
MADD Hour– Every Thursday, 1T will have MADD Hour at 2.20-3.20 with Miss Brooke Westwood. Semester 1 will focus on art appreciation and music with Miss Brooke Westwood and Semester 2 will be dance and drama with Mrs Lukic.
Homework – For Year 1, students are encouraged to borrow home readers on a Friday from the home reading hub. Students also have access to Reading Eggs and Mathletics. In addition to this students have their weekly news topics and their Magic 200 Sight words, if not already complete.
Crunch and Sip- Each morning we have crunch and sip at around 10.20am. Please include a fresh piece of fruit or vegetable that is easy to eat in your child’s lunch box each day. This break should only take 5-10 minutes.
Parent Helpers – We are always on the lookout for parent helpers to read with the students and go through sight word lists, so even if it is a once off or reoccurring, I would love to hear from you. Please contact me via the school email if this is something you would be able to assist with.
Assembly – The Assembly time for K-2 is Wednesday afternoons at 2:50 in weeks 3, 5, 8 and 10.
Parent Communication - Open communication between us is very important. Should you have any queries regarding your child, please send me an email through the school email address berowra-p.school@det.nsw.edu.au . As I am teaching, attending meetings and have other duties throughout the school day, I may take 24 - 48 hours to respond.
Seesaw – 1T use Seesaw in class time, not only for their technology skills through educational tasks, but to show their families what they are learning about during the day. They upload images and activities that they have been doing in class time, which encourages families to participate in the learning journey.
I am really looking forward to an exciting year of learning with 1T.
