3P - Mrs Pickering

Welcome to 3P with Mrs Pickering!

Our class has been very busy settling into new routines and learning about one another. Unfortunately, after a storm early in Term 1 we had to vacate our classroom due to storm/water damage. After a few moves, also due to painting, we settled in the newly appointed ‘Teacher Collaboration Room’. We continue to call this room our classroom and look forward to having our own classroom and resources back. All 3P students should be commended on the impressive resilience and positive attitude that they have demonstrated. 3P have been focussed on getting to know each other, making new friends and building a family unit. Moving from Stage 1 to Stage 2 is a big leap and we are all learning how to be more responsible: for our learning, our belongings and the choices we make throughout the day. From the start of the year, the students demonstrated a positive attitude and eagerness to tackle the challenges that the Stage 2 curriculum brings. They continue to approach everyday with a positive attitude and a helping hand to whoever may need one, including their teacher! I am looking forward to developing deeper relationships with all the children and to the exciting and rewarding times throughout the year, whether it be simply learning something new, celebrating success or purely enjoying the moment!

Sports Day – Sports day is on a Friday. Students are required to wear their sports uniform, have their school hat and a drink bottle. Some students are in PSSA, some are attending at school sport. Please note, if your child is in PSSA, they need to be at school early, ready to leave on the buses.

Library Day – Every Tuesday, 3P will have Library from 10:20-11:20 with Mr Griffin. They are encouraged to borrow books of interest each week as they are read in class independently to form a deeper love for reading. Please ensure your child remembers their library bag!

MADD Hour– Every Thursday, 2P will have MADD Hour at 11:45 - 12:45 with Mrs Kelly Lukic for dance. Semester 1 will focus on dance and drama with Mrs Kelly Lukic and Semester 2 will be art appreciation and music with Miss Brooke Westwood

Homework – For Year Three, students are encouraged to read ‘Good fit books’, either from home or the library. Students also have access to Reading Eggs/ Eggspress and Mathletics and are encouraged to complete activities that are posted for the week’s focus. Students will also have Speaking and Listening (Talking to Learn) tasks to complete, that are closely linked to various aspects of the curriculum, particularly writing. They will also have ‘Big Talk’ tasks to complete, supporting Big Writing. Big Talk entails having a chat with family about the topic and ideas to support writing.

Crunch and Sip - Each morning we have Crunch and Sip at around 10:30. Please provide fruit or vegetables that are easy for your child to eat. Crunch and Sip should only take 5-10 minutes and by Year 3 we expect the children to by starting to eat while they continue with their work. However, this is tricky with messy fruit!

Assembly – The Assembly time for 3-6 is Wednesday afternoons at 2:30 in weeks 3, 5, 8 and 10.

Parent Communication - Open communication between us is very important. Should you have any queries regarding your child’s learning, please send me an email through the school email address Berowra-p.school@det.nsw.edu.au. As I am teaching, attending meetings and have other duties throughout the school day, I may take 24 - 48 hours to respond.

Seesaw – 3P is using Seesaw in class time not only for their technology skills through educational tasks, and will soon be sharing this with their families. We are also using Google Classroom as a major platform for learning tasks and children can show their families this at home.

I am really looking forward to an exciting year of learning with 3P.
