Welcome to 5/6C with Mr Cottrell.
Here in 5/6C we are up and running with our learning structure and environment. The aim in 5/6C is to have desk-space when that is the best place to learn and breakout space when a more open learning opportunity is appropriate. We embrace a Growth Mindset and a classroom that builds a Culture of Thinking. We hope to develop ourselves as independent learners who own their own learning, challenging themselves to take on the next steps in all areas of their learning journey.
Sports Day – Sports day is on a Friday. Students are required to wear their sports uniform, have their school hat and a drink bottle.
Library Day – Every Monday 5/6C will have Library with Mr Griffin. They are encouraged to borrow books of interest each week as they are read in class independently to form a deeper love for reading. They focus on STEM-based and Research skills during this time.
MADD Hour - Every Tuesday 5/6C will have MADD Hour at 11:45 - 12:45 with Mrs Kelly Lukic. Semester 1 will focus on drama and dance with Mrs Kelly Lukic, and Semester 2 will focus on art appreciation and music with Miss Brooke Westwood.
Homework – A homework collection of learning tasks is given out each week, usually on a Monday, to be returned on Thursday or Friday to be marked. The learning in the homework connects to learning that has happened in the classroom. The main aim is to help students organise their time as preparation for High School.
Crunch and Sip - Each morning we have fruit break at around 10am. Please include a piece of fruit that is easy to eat in your child’s lunch box each day. Crunch and Sip should only take 5-10 minutes.
Assembly – The Assembly time for 3- 6 is Wednesday afternoons at 2:20 in weeks 3, 5, 8 and 10.
Parent Communication - Open communication between us is very important. Should you have any queries regarding your child, please send me an email through the school email address Berowra-p.school@det.nsw.edu.au . As I am teaching, attending meetings and have other duties throughout the school day, I may take 24 - 48 hours to respond.
